Looking for an easy way to bring a little Halloween fun into your phonics lessons this October? This free Halloween beginning sound worksheet gives your kindergarten students practice identifying beginning sounds, with a fun color-by-code format they’ll love!
Best of all, it’s print-and-go, so you can add it to your plans without adding another thing to your prep list. Because we all know October in kindergarten is exciting enough already.
Being able to hear and identify the first sound in a word is an important early phonemic awareness skill that helps prepare students to connect sounds to letters as they learn to read and spell.
With this Halloween beginning sounds color by code, students look at each Halloween-themed picture, say the word aloud, identify the beginning sound, and use the code to determine which color to use.
For example, if students see a picture of a bat, they would say bat, isolate the /b/ sound, and find the corresponding letter or color on the code.
