Finding and planning STEM activities for kids can be a lot of work. You have to find the activity on Pinterest or a blog, grab all the materials, possibly go to the store to get any additional materials and then actually do it with your child. I am not a “plan ahead” kind of mom, which leaves me scrambling at the last minute to do something educational with my own daughter. I loved doing STEM activities when I was in the classroom, but finding them to do at home never happened.
That's where GIGIL STEM kits comes in! GIGIL STEM kit subscription boxes were created by a homeschool mom looking for engaging and educational STEM activities for her children.
This is a sponsored post for GIGIL STEM Kit Subscription Box. All opinions are my own.
These all in one STEM kits take all the planning and preparation out for you, with ready-to-use and engaging STEM activities expertly designed for your children or students. Every month, there is a new theme with 5 done for you activities, including worksheets, detailed instructions, all the materials you need, plus a video lesson taught by a California credentialed teacher.
Caroline and I tried out the Pre-K to 1st Grade GIGIL STEM box all about archeology and dinosaurs. She is currently in Pre-K three days a week, so I am always looking for educational activities to do together on the days she doesn't have school. I loved that this STEM kit had absolutely everything I needed and I didn't have to search my house or make a trip to the store.
Here's a look at what was inside this box:
- Parent Letter
- Instruction Guides
- Link to Video Lesson
- All the materials needed to complete these activities (the only thing I needed to add was water!)
We chose to do these activities from the Archaeology box:
STEM Activity #1: Build a Cave
We watched the video lesson all about Archaeologists and how they looked at cave drawings. I have never taught about dinosaurs or fossils before, so I was even learning some new facts! We built the cave using the supplies and then Caroline drew to create “stories” on the cave walls. She decided to turn the box upside down to create a cave for her dinosaurs to play in.
STEM Activity #2: Fossils
Next, we learned about the different fossil types that archeologists might find: trace fossils, mold fossils, cast fossils, and true form fossils. Caroline used the modeling clay to create these fossils using the dinosaurs. Here she is creating trace fossils using the dinosaurs footprints.
STEM Activity #3: Ancient Coding
We did another activity with the writings and drawings on the walls of caves. She loved mixing her own play dough out of flour, salt, instant coffee, and water. Then she created a “code” using shapes she knew how to draw to write her name.
STEM Activities for Kids Made Easy!
GIGIL STEM kits made it so simple and easy to plan an exciting and educational snow day afternoon with my daughter. She is already excited to learn more about dinosaurs and fossils, I can't wait to finish out the rest of these activities.
