Books All About Springtime
When Spring Comes by Kevin Henke
This is one of my all-time favorite books to read aloud in the classroom. It is a story about all of the first signs of Spring. We always do this interactive anchor chart afterward!
It's Spring! by Linda Glaser
This is a perfect read aloud for the first day of Spring! It talks about the weather, clothing, animals, and more all associated with Springtime. The drawings are bold and colorful, perfect to engage all your little learners.
And Then It's Spring by Julie Fogliano
This is a story about a boy and his dog that decided they've had enough of winter, so they will plant a garden hoping that spring will come soon!
Spring Books About Chicks, Ducks, and Bunnies, Oh My!
Make Way for Ducklings by Robert McCloskey
I remember going to Boston when I was little and seeing these duck statues in the Boston Public Gardens. This is a classic story about ducklings and their mom who have to travel through the city to find the perfect new home.
There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Chick by Lucille Colandro
You gotta love the “There Was an Old Lady” series. I think I have every single one! It is a great story to teach retelling and sequencing of events or practice identifying rhyming words. Plus, it's hilarious and sure to be a hit with your kids!
Too Many Carrots by Katy Hudson
This hilarious book is about a rabbit trying to find its home for its many carrots. We always did this Letter R craft (from this Letter Crafts resource) along with the story!
Farfallina and Marcel by Holly Keller
I had read this book as part of a reading curriculum I used in the past. It is the story of two animal friends how they grew apart, and then found each other again. It is one of my favorite books to read!
Animals in Spring by Martha Rustad
A great non fiction Spring read aloud is this book about animals! It's a great way to incorporate some new vocabulary and talk about how many animals are born in the springtime. All of the animal pictures are wonderful!
Spring Books About Gardening and Plants
The Tiny Seed by Eric Carle
Eric Carle books are some of my FAVORITES because of the amazing watercolor illustrations. This one is a great description of how plants grow and pairs well with a plants unit.
Planting a Rainbow by Lois Elhert
Learn about colors and flowers with this wonderfully illustrated story.
Lola Plants a Garden by Anna McQuinn
After reading this book, I have my students draw what their garden would look like. I love seeing their ideas come to life!
The Little Gardener by Emily Hughes
Many of my students have never gardened before, so this was a great story to introduce gardening! It shows the importance of nature and why we should appreciate it.
Spring Stories About Rainy and Windy Weather
Let it Rain by Maryann Cocca-Leffler
This is a great story to pair with a writing activity about a rainy day! Have students write what they would do on a rainy day.
Worm Weather by Jean Taft
Watch how kids have fun in the rain and how worms enjoy it too! Your kids will start looking for worms in the rain after reading this book.
Kite Day: A Bear and Mole Story by Will Hillenbrand
At my previous school, we had a yearly kite day, where students would bring their kites and fly them in the afternoon. This was the perfect read aloud to go with it!
